Wooden Sink
20. Product Design
A fusion of modern design & German shipyard craftsmanship.
Step into a world where modern style meets the tradition of German shipyards. The idea behind this sink was to create a product that brings the best of both worlds together and produce something that can be used in everyday life.
Think of a sink that's not just practical, but also a work of art inspired by shipyards. The wood veneer adds a natural touch while being tough enough for daily use. Its shape resembles the elegant lines of ships, a reminder of the attention to detail that craft is known for.
From flat to form.
The wood veneer is delicately shaped through vacuum forming and molding to create its specific shape. In a vacuum forming chamber, heated veneer is pressed onto the mold using vacuum pressure to achieve its curved shape. The molding involves steam bending, laminating, and pressing to shape the veneer.

Design AHOI
The culture of Northern Germany is characterized by its relationship with the Northern and Eastern Sea. For centuries, the local shipyards flourished, manufacturing specialty craft, however only a few survived into the new millennium. Their craftsmanship and traditions are slowly fading into the past.
